Cheers to Warm Tea!!!

Welcome back! Welcome back to another great week of NT! I hope that you are doing well as I hope that you are bundling up well because it's pretty cold outside. Come on in, pick you a great spot while we wait on the warm tea to get ready. This week we have options for your tea. You can pick between original, peach, or raspberry tea. We also have condiments on the side. If you would like to add lemons or honey inside of your tea. Everyone talked about how good the muffins were last week, so I decided to bring more this week. As we get ready to take off make sure you have all of your essentials and you're comfortable because we have a lot of tea to spill this week. As you know we always start with our fist to our heart because we are ready to start. We do have some defending going on in this session so please be ready to put on your thinking caps. Starting off, come up with a way you would solve 25 + 25 and think outside the box on how you would solve the problem. Now there's some defending going on. We have two answers 15 or 50 which one are you picking? Now if you picked 50 then you're correct, as always, I would list our pre-service teachers' responses.

  • Student one: 20 + 20 + 5 + 5= 50

  • Student two: 25 + 25=50

  • Student three: 25 x 2= 50

Did you come up with some of the same ways? If not let me know below in the comments as always know that your comments are welcome. Next, we have more defending going on; come up with a way you would solve 25 + 26 but before you solve the problem which answer are you defending 51 or 56. If you picked 51 then you're correct, now think outside the box of how you would actually solve this problem. I know you are enjoying this good ole tea while eating your muffins but hold still because we are about to turn it up a notch. But before we turn it up a notch let’s list some ways pre-service teachers saw 51.

  • Student one: 6 + 5 to get 11 then added 20 + 20, 11 + 20 + 20=51

  • Student two: 25 x 2+1= 51

  • Student three: 10 + 20 + 20 + 1= 51

Did you come up with any of these ways? If not leave me a comment below because I’m counting on you to give me your way of how you came up with 51. Now before your tea is gone go ahead and refill your cup because this tea, we are about to spill is about to be mined blowing. So, this time around we have our very own pre-service teacher Miss Kaela Belcher who is a senior here at Alabama A&M University. This is her very first-time teaching NT as well. She did an outstanding job. She started off by leading the class with fist to your heart because you are ready to start. She showed the problem, told students to hold their thumb up when they have the answer. Students begin to give answers once they are called on. This time around we have three answers to defend which are 50, 49, and 33. Which one would you like to defend? And how would you solve 24 + 26? If you picked 50 for your defending answer, then you are correct. Below are some of the ways pre- service teachers saw 50.

  • Student one: 6 + 4=10, 20 + 20 = 40, and 40 + 10=5
  • Student two: Compensation going on student knows 25 + 25= 50 then she takes away 1 from six to make 25. 26-1= 25 and 25 + 25= 50

Did you see any of these ways? If not, I'm counting on you to respond to me in the comments. Don’t be afraid! I bet you didn't expect to hear about our pre-service teachers teaching. Well before you wet your throat again or drink the last bit of your tea save it because, this last go round gone help you finish your tea. Once again, we have another one of our pre-service teachers teaching Miss Carson Scott who is a junior here at Alabama A&M University. This is her very first-time doing NT, and she did an outstanding job as well. She led the class off with a cheer saying, “Fist to your heart because you're ready to start”. As always everybody joined in saying the cheer to make the NT lesson more engaging. This time around we have more defending going on and as always which number will you be defending 70, 65, or 75. When defending, also think of a way to solve 26 + 49. While thinking and defending if you decided to pick 75 then you're correct. During this session we had one student wrong her right to get the correct answer. As we wrap up and you finish your tea, I'll be posting pre-service teacher ways.

  • Student one: 20 + 40 = 60, 9 + 6= 15, which is 60 + 15=75

  • Student two: Decomposed 26 to make 25 and added the 1 to 49 to make 50.

26-1=25, and 50 + 25= 75

Did you come up with any of these answers? If not, let me know in the comments because your comments are always welcome. I’m pretty sure your cup is empty which is fine because when we spill the tea, we spill the tea with nothing to hold back. As we enjoy spilling the tea every week, we hope to see you back here next week because we have more tea coming!
