Now Look at This! Tea with a Twist!!!
Welcome back! The sun is shining bright. The weather is about to change and before it does let's
have our last tea session outside. We are set up under the tree in the shade and as always be sure to grab your cup,
and fill it with ice and sweet tea. We got a little fancy and decided to give you some options for your sweet tea;
you can pick between a strawberry or lemon to go on the top.
Please don’t forget to grab your straw and make sure you're comfortable because we have some tea to spill.
As always we do our NT on our projector but this week we decided to do
NT on a paddle to make the session extra fun and engaging.
As always, we start with our fist to our heart because we are ready to start. Don’t be afraid to comment!
I'm depending on you to answer! Starting off can you believe we have some defending going on already? Well, guess what?
Take a minute and decide if you would pick 15 or 14. If you decided to choose 15 then you’re correct!
While I explain how PST came up with their answers sit t back and think about whether you have seen it the same way or differently.
Student one: 5+5+2+3= 15 (Two rows of 5’s)
Student two: 2 x 6+3= 15 (Two groups of 6’s)
If you saw it the way they did maybe yall have the same mindset if you say it differently leave a comment.
This is just the beginning, while you moisturize your throat and think of a way you could have
seen 15 think of a way you would also see 18.
This time around we didn't have any defending going on. Everyone agreed on 18 for the answer.
Before we get into spilling the tea on how our PST saw 18. Think of a way you could have seen 18,
on a paddle would you actually count 18 dots out and put them on the board or would you space them out?
Good question huh! Leave your comment below while I list the ways PST saw 18.
Student one: 20-2=18 (20 boxes total but 2 are missing )
Student two: 2,4,6,8,10 + 8=18
Student three: 4x4+2= 18
Student four: 10 + 2 x 4=18
Student five: 8+8+2= 18
I’m pretty sure you weren't expecting that many responses but, as you can see there are many ways you can see 17.
If you see another way, comment below. I’m pretty sure your cup is halfway empty now but save the best for last.
Lastly, we always start with our fist to our heart because we are ready to start. This time around there was also no
defending going on which is okay, but instead, think of a way you would see 17.
As always I’ll be looking for your comment below!!!! While thinking of your way I'll be listing some ways
PST gave to find 17.
Student one: 5,10,15 +2= 17
Student two: 5+5+3+7+17
Did you come up with some of the same ways to find 17? If not then I would love to find out your way.
I know I have spilled a lot of tea today
and your cup is empty which is fine as long as you're still comfortable in the shade.
Next week, be prepared because we have something new
coming at you and you don’t want to miss out. Also, the weather is changing so be prepared for either cold or hot tea.
We will be sure to update you on the location for our next session due to the weather change.
I hope you have enjoyed the tea today, hopefully, you will leave me a comment below and as always
I’ll see you next week for more tea.
The tea is getting good, so I am going to put the strawberry on top. I would like to defend 15 from the first number talk set. I saw two columns of fours (4+4=8). Then, I saw two rows of three and one lone ranger (3+3+1=7). Therefore, I saw 8+7 which equals 15.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response!!! Those are great ways!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I’m going with a lemon to put in my tea! I would like to defend 15 from the first set of number talks. I saw 2 rows of 5 and then I saw a row of 3 and a row of 2. I knew 5+5=10 and 2+3=5 and then I added 10+5 and got the answer 15.

Thanks Krista and Angel. Those were excellent ways to see those amount of dots!
DeleteHey ya'll! I plan to add peach to my tea because this is GOOD. For the 1st number talk, I saw 15 dots. I counted the 2 full lines as 5+5 then I added 3+2 and got 15.
ReplyDelete- Carson Scott
Totally awesome way of seeing those 15 dots!!!
DeleteHey everyone! The tea is getting very good to me. I will add some honey to my tea. I saw 15 dots. I looked at the first two columns and saw 4 and next, I saw another 4. Then I looked up at the top of the row and saw 3. After that, I add all the numbers together like this 4+4+4=12+3=15.

I see your honey. You used repeated addition which is a great Segway to multiplication!!!
DeleteHey yall!! I will add peach to my tea. I also saw 15 dots for the first number talk. I did 2 groups of 4 which is 8 and then I added 3 two times and added 1. The equation is 8+3+3+1=15.

Love the peach you added. That's a great way to include multiplication to eat.
